My Dearest Blue Pajama Pants,
It saddens to me have to write this to you, but I fear that it is time we part ways. Lately you seem to be unwinding at the seems, frazzled and weak. It seems as though I have worn you thin and despite your best efforts, you can no longer provide for me the way you once did.
Indeed, we have been through it all together. I remember when we first met, that glorious night in the hospital. I had just given birth to my daughter and desperate to get out of that dreadful hospital gown. That is when you were presented to me, neatly folded and wrapped in soft white tissue paper, nestled inside a colorful bag. From that day forward I knew we would be close, I just felt it.
We shared countless nights walking the floor with babies, innumerable mornings spent coffee clutching. You always stuck around for the clean up too. Remember that one time we painted the house? You remember, it was late, we waited until after the kids went to bed with my husband. He rolled a stripe of sage green paint on you, right on the back. You thought you were done then, but not me, I still wore you proud. Countless mornings we spent together on the bus stop, it never not once bothered me to be seen with you.
Oh, but now my old friend, you have gone grey and lost color in places, you’ve lost your elasticity, and the holes are spreading. I’m afraid there is not much more you will be able to endure. They say, maybe one more washing. So, before it comes down to you completely unraveling, I will leave you now, as you still have your shape and your dignity. When I look back at photographs of us together I will always be filled with fond memories and adoration I have for you.
Blue pajama pants, its time for me to say goodbye. There will never be another quite like you. You will be missed dearly.
Your devoted friend,
Lisa ❤
Do you have a garment that devastated you to part with? How bad did you let it get?
This doesn’t look so bad, the back is filled with holes. Its not good.
i so understand this, i had a grey hoodie that i loved like anything. my daughters threatened to burn it at one point.

Aww so sweet… Our human love is reflected in so many ways, as you’ve shown by tying memories to your pj’s. Sweet sorrow to say goodbye to your faithful companion.

don’t toss them! Things I really love I take a large square or two and sew the edges and use them as general ‘wipies’. I keep a basket in the livingroom and they are used on spills and faces as well as doll blankets and ‘present’ wrapping. Every single one has a little story and these pants deserve to live on

Oh, perhaps they can be a doll blanket for my daughters doll, in which I was the whole reason I got them (new hospital pj’s). I LOVE that!! GREAT IDEA!! Thank you! 🙂

Awwwww….can’t you just leave them in the bottom of a drawer somewhere for old times sake? I have several articles of clothing I just can’t seem to part with. The only time I will get rid of something is if they are falling apart. But they really have to be bad.😊

Well, there is no more fabric to cover my butt – does that constitute as really bad?
I didn’t think so either 😉 The People I live with are giving me slack about these pants (kids n hubby) perhaps I will hide them a little longer SHHH don’t tell!!
Thank you for understanding and taking the time to read! 🙂

Yeah…..I feel so much better now. I feel like I work at a rescue shelter and did something good.😊

As you should. Both my pants and I are extremely thankful for talking me out of this harsh decision. 🙂 I was thinking maybe I’ll just put some patches over the holes and start a new trend. That could work!! 🙂

Every single article of clothing I own I have a hard time parting with. It’s ridiculous… and also the reason I still have t-shirts from high school.

Oh I have many clothes, shoes, you name it from high school. Whats wrong with me? I don’t know. The question should be, whats wrong with us? Hmmmm that you be on your next addition of “Things that make you go Hmmm” LOL THanks for reading!! 🙂

Ooh… I totally should blog about this. Even if it’s just to showcase the horrible styles I still have hanging in my closet for God knows what reason…

I am on my third pair of white cotton pajamas, in … 20 years? Yes. This third pair is nearly threadbare, and quite obscene, but it is not yet time for the fourth pair.
RIP demin jammy pants ❤

Oh thank you for your condolences. WOW!! you love your clothes just as much as me, if not more!! It really is the best when you have been strangled in jeans all day and pull open your drawer to find them there, patiently waiting to comfort you!!! LOL Thank you for reading!! 🙂

I have a red hoodie falling apart that I refuse to part with. I have sewed the pocket back on numerous times, and the logo has completely unraveled. It is my most favorite item, but looks horrible. Maybe you could make your pants into a pillow? Good luck!

I love these ideas of recycling them!! I don’t know why, but I never thought of that. Great Idea!! Thank you for reading and wear your red hoodie proudly!! I support you! 🙂

I still have the New York Giants t-shirt that I was wearing when they won Super Bowl XXI in January 1987. I was also wearing it when they won Super Bowls XXV, XLII, and XLVI (and unfortunately when they lost Super Bowl XXXV). The sticky white letters are nearly all peeled off, but I cannot part with it. Chances are I’ll be buried in it.

Love this! I have a pair of slippers that have been slowly dying for over the past ten years. I finally wore a hole through the toe and the rubber on the bottom came unstitched. They are still in my closet…

This is great and very sweet! I totally understand. About 10 years ago, I wrote a newspaper column that was a farewell to my favorite, beloved, well-worn, perfectly-fitting jeans.
I busted them open dancing at a concert, so it was a good way for them to go out. (And luckily I had had enough adult beverages that I didn’t notice a dime-sized window to my undies until the next day. LOL)
It’s not just the clothes themselves, but the awesome memories are wrapped up in these things. That’s why it’s so hard to let them go.
I love this post.

This can’t be. I didn’t see it coming. It seems like just yesterday we were having coffee, laughing and talking…and the pants seemed ok. When did it get this bad? How could you not tell me??? May those beloved blue pajama pants rest well. I can’t talk anymore…

I have several garments like this. My husband gave me a pair of sweatpants from Tennessee (my favorite state and a place I dream of living someday) when we were first dating, and even with a hole in the butt I refuse to part with them until the hole becomes embarrassingly too large. 🙂 I tend to be a clothes hoarder in general! Have you ever seen the “Golden Boy” episode of Seinfeld? It’s about a t-shirt he refuses to part with. You’d appreciate it.

It’s the “Marine Biologist” episode. Jerry makes reference to the shirt at the beginning and the end of the episode. And you are welcome, I enjoyed the post!

I have this horrible “Knights of the Round Table” color-blocked sweatshirt with a polo collar that I took from my grandfather’s closet when he died. He pretty much wore that thing for three decades, and now, to my husband’s dismay, I wear it around the house and yard!!!

this is so funny. I’ve just been thinking it might be time to say goodbye to my favorite grey sweatpants, I’ve noticed the elastic at the top is separating, and I have a hole a little too close to my left butt cheek…..not to mention bleach stains and general wear and tear. But they are my favorite!!! Nothing beats coming home and getting out of the “nice” clothes I hate to wear, and putting on my comfy pants 🙂

Hang on to it for a little bit longer!! I told my hubby – the holes near the butt is sexy – a little revealing but not too much 😉 lol No one thinks they are sexy except for me – so comfy!!!!! 🙂 Thanks for reading! 🙂
