#am_I_doing_this_right?

Ok my WordPress family, I need your help!!!

I just signed up to twitter. I know, I know, I am a little late on trend.

I would watch Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show display the humorous tweets he received in response to his hashtags or Ellen at the Oscar’s taking the “most re-tweeted” photo, all the while, sitting there, nervously smiling among my peers, with no clue as to how the Twitter world works.

I have successfully linked my blog to Twitter. Yay! Small victory. I have looked up all of my favorite authors, actors, singers, publications and any other random people I could think of and began following them.  Now what?  What am I suppose to post? What exactly is a hashtag? Can I make up my own? Is it beneficial to tag your post with a hashtag that already exist?

Standing in the Twitter world, I feel alone and afraid. Everyone is buzzing about, posting, hashtagging, re-tweeting, all rushing by me as I stand still looking for a familiar face in the crowd. So if you are reading this, please stop for a second and drop a line of advice.  I would greatly appreciate it. 🙂

(I know the #s don’t count on here or do they?)

  1. No need to panic. Tweets will come and go. Use that search button on top if you want to look up useful hashtags. When using @someone in beginning of tweets only the that recipient and your followers will receive your tweets. Otherwise, everyone gets them. You will grow a following pretty quickly. I spend every morning and night to catch up. You will do fine. 😄

  2. ^That’s what happens when I try to comment from my phone!
Anyway, I don’t love Twitter that much. My favorite times to use it are when shows like The Bachelor are on. ie: If you do a search for #TheBachelor when it’s on, you will see everyone’s (smart-aleck) comments about it in real time, even if you’re not following them.
I will go follow you now! 🙂

    • LOL I hear ya! I am looking forward to using Twitter when watching some shows, although I DVR everything – so it might be a little ineffective. Thank you for your comment & taking the time to read!! 🙂

Good luck. I’ve figured it out, but just don’t get the point. Why wouldn’t I post my thoughts on Facebook where I’m not limited to a character count?

  4. Twitter is an interesting place, just joined a few months ago. My only suggestion is choose who you follow wisely. When I first joined, I followed anyone who seemed interesting, and quickly ended up in angry/drunk/very sexual twitter. I’ll find you and follow you…maybe you can lead me to greener pastures!

    • Yes, I hope to create an environment of parents, writers and positive people to follow. Is that asking too much? Perhaps even unrealistic? I will say some club bangers started following me and I really just want to message them and let them know, its just gonna be rants about raising kids and the occasional sentimental post of my affection to them. Kids bring out a real Dr.Jekyll/Mr. Hyde vibe, if you know what I mean. Look forward to finding you in the Twitter universe. Thank you for commenting and taking the time to read!!!

  5. I have been trying to figure twitter out also. I have a hate/hate relationship with it, I prefer Facebook because I have a difficult time limiting my posts to 140 characters. I will find you and follow you!!
